چکیده

The objective of this work was to study the survival and growth juveniles oyster Crassostrea gasar reared in ponds at different depths. Rearing trials were carried out for 42 days (6 weeks) two (12 m2 x 1.10 m deep), one which fertilized with poultry droppings other no fertilization. For each pond, 03 depths (30 cm, 60 cm 90 cm) tested duplicate. At depth, iron mesh bags (40 20 10 used. Oysters an average size 40.50 mm weight 15.36 g cultivated a density 30 individuals per bag. Phytoplankton density, pH, temperature, transparency salinity water daily measured between 7:00 8:00 am. counted weekly. Individual length evaluate their growth. values physico-chemical parameters during met requirements tropical oysters. After 6 weeks rearing, best rates observed (86.67% 81.67% unfertilized ponds, respectively) while lowest (46.67% 41.67 recorded depth. highest mean final sizes (40.584 40.568 depth (40.557 40.553 same order) ranged from1 5.32 (at depth) 15.38 it overlapped 15.3 (90 15.35 pond. gain 0.0004 g/day 0.0005 respectively zootechnical performance Fertilized pond culture highlight future prospects promotion controlled environment.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the reproductive cycle of the oyster Crassostrea gasar (= C. brasiliana) in the field and the laboratory. The reproductive cycle of the animals was evaluated in the field at Sambaqui Beach, Florianópolis, SC (27° 29'18″ S and 48° 32'12″ W) from May 2008 through November 2009. In July, the animals were in the resting stage. The early growth stage began in...

Trans-atlantic distribution of a mangrove oyster species revealed by 16S mtDNA and karyological analyses.

Three species of mangrove oysters, Crassostrea rhizophorae, C. brasiliana, and C. gasar, have been described along the Atlantic shores of South America and Africa. Because the distribution of these molluscs is of great biological and commercial interest, their taxonomy and distribution deserve further clarification. Therefore, 15 populations were sampled from both continents. Their 16S mitochon...

Assessment of Temperature Effects on Early Larval Development Survival of Hatchery-reared Tropical Oyster, Crassostrea iredalei.

The influence of the cool and warm temperatures on early life development and survival of tropical oyster, Crassostrea iredalei was studied. D-hinged larvae (day 1 larvae) were reared to three different temperatures (20°C, 27°C, and 34°C) for nine days. Oyster larvae reared in temperature 27°C, acted as control (ambient temperature). The highest survival rate occurred when the larvae were reare...

Effect of Size on the Acute Toxicity of Crude Oil to the Mangrove Oyster, Carasostrea gasar

The acute toxic effects of a Nigerian crude oil (Egbogoro Liner II) to the mangrove oyster Crassostrea gasar were studied in bioassays. Tests were conducted over a 96-hr period after acclimatization of individuals in the laboratory, initially with a population comprising a broad size categories (11 60 mm) in range finding tests. The tests were semi-static bioassays in which the exposure media w...
